وضع المفاوضون في مؤتمر كوبنهاغن للمناخ الخطوط العريضة لاتفاقية تحصل بموجبها بعض الدول على تعويضات مالية مقابل الحفاظ على الغابات، والمشاهد الطبيعية الأخرى مثل التربة الخصبة والمستنقعات والحقول التي تلعب دورا هاما في الحد من التغير المناخي، حسب صحيفة نيويورك تايمز.
