وسط انتقادات من الجمهوريين, ومخاوف أمنية, قررت إدارة الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما نقل بعض المحتجزين في غوانتانامو إلى سجن في ولاية إلينوي. وكان الكونغرس قد سن قانونا يحظر مجيء سجناء غوانتانامو إلى الأراضي الأميركية إلا إذا كانوا سيقدمون للمحاكمة.
