أعلنت الجماهيرية بسابقة أن عيد الأضحى الخميس استنادا إلى مركز حكومي يحدد دوريا ومنفردا مطالع الأشهر العربية. ورفض مواطنون الاحتفال بالعيد الخميس وأغلقت أغلب المساجد وطالت تعليقات على الإنترنت رأس النظام. واعتادت ليبيا المخالفة بتوقيتات الأعياد لكن هذه السياسة استثنت عيد الأضحى.
