انتقد عضو مجلس الشيوخ الفرنسي فيليب ماريني العزلة الدبلوماسية التي تفرضها دول الاتحاد الأوروبي على حركة المقاومة الإسلامية (حماس)، معتبرا أن "الواقعية السياسية تفرض التعاطي بشكل أو بآخر مع هذا الفصيل الفلسطيني الأساسي".
