استبعد كبير المفاوضين الفلسطينيين صائب عريقات استئناف محادثات السلام الإسرائيلية الفلسطينية في القريب العاجل، وحمل إسرائيل مسؤولية الوصول إلى طريق مسدود، وتزامنت تصريحاته مع زيارة للرئيس الأميركي الأسبق جيمي كارتر إلى القاهرة بهدف تحريك جهود استئناف عملية السلام بين الفلسطينيين وإسرائيل.
