أثار اتساع دائرة الانتقاد للإستراتيجية الأميركية في أفغانستان حفيظة وزير الدفاع الأميركي روبرت غيتس الذي طالب مستشاري الرئيس جورج بوش بتجنب الانتقاد العلني لها.
