حقق ريال مدريد الإسباني فوزا كبيرا في مستهل مشواره في مسابقة دوري أبطال أوروبا لكرة القدم بفوزه خارج أرضه على زيورخ السويسري 5-2. كما حققت الفرق الكبيرة انتصارات هامة خارج أرضها أبرزها لمانشستر يونايتد الإنجليزي وبايرن ميونيخ الألماني وميلان الإيطالي.
