عين الرئيس الإيراني محمود أحمدي نجاد نائبا أول جديدا له بعد رفض مرشد الجمهورية آية الله علي خامنئي تعيين أسفنديار رحيم مشائي في هذا المنصب. واختار أحمدي نجاد لهذا المنصب نائبه خلال فترة رئاسته الأولى محمد رضا رحيمي.
