حذرت وكالة ستاندرد آند بورز للتصنيف الائتماني من أنها قد تخفض التصنيف السيادي لليابان، إذ سجل الاقتصاد معدل نمو دون المتوقع أو في حالة استمرار نمو الدين العام بينما تسعى الحكومة لكسب التأييد لرفع الضرائب.
