قال رئيس أركان الجيوش الأميركية الجنرال مارتن ديمبسي إن هناك مؤشرات تفيد بأن القاعدة متورطة وتسعى إلى دعم المعارضة السورية لنظام الرئيس بشار الأسد، معتبرا أنه "من المبكر" التفكير في تسليحها، كما رأى أن أي تدخل محتمل في سوريا سيكون "صعبا للغاية".
