كرر منافسو الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما في الانتخابات الرئاسية مهاجمتهم للشعب الفلسطيني، وانتقدوا سياسة أوباما تجاه إسرائيل، حيث اعتبر المرشح الجمهوري مت رومني أن أوباما "ضحى بإسرائيل" من خلال سياسته، وجدد نيوت غينغريتش قوله إن الفلسطينيين "شعب مختلق".
