رغم اعلان واشنطن سحب قواتها من العراق فإن آلافا من تلك القوات ستظل في البلاد تحت مسميات مختلفة أبرزها التدريب ومساعدة القوات العراقية. هذا وقد ترك الانسحاب الأمريكي العراق وهو يقف امام الكثير من المشاكل، أخطرها تلك التي بين بغداد وإقليم كردستان، فالمناطق المتنازع عليها لم يحسم أمرها، والسياسة النفطية في الإقليم تعترض عليها بغداد وترفض العقود التي وقعها مع شركات أجنبية.
