تمثل قضية الدعم أبعادا اقتصادية واجتماعية خطيرة في ظل الأوضاع المتفاقمة بالموازنة المصرية على مدار السنوات العشر الماضية. وبلغ حجم الدعم بالموازنة العامة 5.9 مليارات جنيه عام 2000/2001، ووصل عام 2011/2012 لنحو 132.9 مليارا.
