قال أحمد ولد داداه زعيم المعارضة الديمقراطية في موريتانيا إن خطر جفاف حقيقي يحدق بالبلاد وإن هناك بوادر مجاعة. وانتقد ولد داداه ما سماه عدم تحرك الحكومة لمواجهة الوضع الذي وصفه بالكارثي، كما طالب المجتمع الدولي بتقديم المساعدة العاجلة للشعب الموريتاني. أما الحكومة الموريتانية فتقول إنها عاكفة على خطة لمساعدة المتضررين جراء نقص الأمطار وإن الوضع تحت السيطرة.
