حمّل مثقفون وفنانون سوريون (في بيان) السلطات مسؤولية تعرض رسام الكاريكاتير علي فرزات للاختطاف والاعتداء بالضرب وسط العاصمة دمشق، مشيرين إلى أن استهدافه بهذه الطريقة الوحشية يهدف إلى إسكات أي صوت حرّ يحمل هموم الناس ومطالبها.
