انتقد القيادي السلفي السوداني محمد الشيخ في حوار خاص بالجزيرة نت تسويق الحكومة السودانية لانفصال الجنوب بوصفه وسيلة للسلام، معتبرا أنه لا يوجد ما يشير إلى أن البلاد ستكون بمأمن لأن الحركة الشعبية قامت على أيديولوجيا التحرر من "هيمنة الثقافة العربية والإسلامية".
