نفى قائد القيادة العسكرية الأميركية في أفريقيا "أفريكوم"، الجنرال كارتر هام -الذي يزور حاليا نواكشوط- نية بلاده إقامة قاعدة عسكرية في موريتانيا، وأضاف أن دور هيئته يقتصر على بناء القدرات وتحسين الجاهزية العسكرية للقوات المسلحة الموريتانية لمواجهة الجماعات المسلحة.
