يرى خبراء اقتصاديون أن الوحدة النقدية بين السودان ودولة الجنوب قد تؤدي إلي استقرار اقتصادي، بينما يرى آخرون أن الانفصال النقدي وتمتع كل دولة بعملتها المتميزة قد يبعد شبح الكوارث المالية والتضخم، ويفرز سياسة مالية أكثر عافية ووضوحاً في كل دولة.
