لفت الكاتب الأميركي توماس فريدمان إلى أن هناك سؤالا ملحا بشأن طبيعة ما يجري في العالم العربي، ويتعلق بطبيعة الثورة أهي من أجل تحقيق الديمقراطية ضد حكم استبدادي أم مجرد مواجهات قبلية.
