أعلنت الحكومة السودانية حزمة إجراءات اقتصادية قبيل الاستفتاء على تقرير مصير الجنوب رفعت بموجبها أسعار الوقود, وخفضت رواتب شاغلي المناصب الدستورية 25% وقلصت تكلفة سفرهم إلى الخارج 30%. كما قررت خفض نفقات البعثات الدبلوماسية 10%وإعادة النظر في هياكل الدولة.
