أثار انضمام الحزب الإسلامي إلى حركة الشباب المجاهدين الصومالية تساؤلات عن أسباب انهيار الحزب ومصير زعيمه حسن طاهر أويس، وأثر هذا الحدث على المشهد الصومالي برمته، وما إذا كانت حركة الشباب ستنتقل من أطر الحركة الضيقة إلى خيار الدولة.
