قالت الحركة الشعبية لتحرير السودان الحاكمة في جنوب البلاد السبت إن الجنوبيين مصرون على إجراء الاستفتاء بشأن تحديد المصير يوم التاسع من يناير/ كانون الثاني المقبل رغم أنباء نفيت لاحقا عن طلب المفوضية المنظمة للاستفتاء تأجيله ثلاثة أسابيع.
