توعدت كوريا الجنوبية بالثأر لمقتل اثنين من جنود مشاة البحرية بقصف مدفعي لكوريا الشمالية استهدف جزيرة جنوبية. وفي وقت استعدت فيه كوريا الجنوبية لإجراء مناورات بحرية مع الولايات المتحدة في البحر الأصفر، طمأنت واشنطن بكين بأن هذه المناورات ليست ضدها.
