توعد ما يسمى تنظيم "دولة العراق الإسلامية" المسيحيين بالقتل واستهداف كافة مراكزهم وقادتهم بعد انتهاء مهلة مدتها 48 ساعة للكنيسة المصرية لإطلاق سراح من وصفهن بالمسلمات الأسيرات. وقد عززت السلطات المصرية بشكل غير ملحوظ الإجراءات الأمنية حول الكنائس وسط دعوات لحماية الأقباط.
