قال مسؤول مكتب العلاقات الخارجية للحزب الإسلامي محمد معلم في تصريحات خاصة للجزيرة نت "إن المفاوضات التي كانت جارية بين الحزب الإسلامي وحركة الشباب المجاهدين قد فشلت"، مشيرا إلى أن هذه هي المرة الثانية التي تفشل فيها الجهود الرامية إلى توحيد صفوف الجانبين.
