بعد الحديث الذي أوردته وسائل إعلام إسرائيلية عن تهريب نسخة نادرة من التوراة من العراق إلى إسرائيل نفى مسؤول عراقي معرفة السلطات بالطريقة التي تم بها التهريب. وبحسب وسائل الإعلام الإسرائيلية فإن تاريخ المخطوطة يعود للقرن الـ18 وهي مطلية بالفضة الخالصة.
