قال مسلمون في نيويورك إنهم أميركيون شأنهم في ذلك شأن المعارضين لإقامة مركز ثقافي إسلامي ومسجد قرب موقع مركز التجارة العالمي الذي دمره "إسلاميون" في هجمات 11 سبتمبر/أيلول 2001، وذلك في محاولة للسيطرة على جدل بدا أنهم يفقدون زمامه.
