قبل أشهر من الاستفتاء المقرر على تقرير مصير جنوب السودان، أعلن الرئيس عمر البشير عن حملة لدعم خيار الوحدة وسط الجنوبيين وتبصيرهم بمضار الانفصال، غير أن مراقبين استبعدوا نجاح ما سموه التحرك الأخير بعدما اتضحت مؤشرات الانفصال، وفق تعبيرهم.
