اختار اتحاد كرة القدم العراقي المدرب الألماني فولفغانغ سيدكا لتدريب المنتخب الأول لمدة سنة مقابل نصف مليون دولار واختار مدربين مساعدين هما ناظم شاكر الذي سبق أن أشرف على تدريب المنتخب وعبد الكريم ناعم لتدريب حراس المرمي.
