يرى الصحفي البريطاني باتريك كوكبيرن أن الولايات المتحدة تبدو حساسة على وجه الخصوص تجاه التبعات السالبة المترتبة على تصرفات إسرائيل في الشرق الأوسط، ذلك أن قوة أميركا في المنطقة تأثرت بفشل تدخلها العسكري بأفغانستان والعراق في تحقيق الأهداف المنشودة.
