امتدح الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة بان كي مون تنظيم جنوب أفريقيا بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم، واعتبر أن ذلك يمكن أن يشكل حافزا للقارة الأفريقية بأكملها.
