دشنت قطر اليوم أحد أكبر مصانع الألومنيوم بالعالم تحت مسمى مصنع ألومنيوم قطر بمدينة مسيعيد الصناعية، بطاقة إنتاجية تصل إلى 585 ألف طن سنويا، وبتكلفة 5.5 مليارات دولار. ومن المقرر أن يوفر المصنع المواد الأولية لصناعات السيارات والبناء والنقل وغيرها.
